The last two KM

THE LAST 2 KM SUCKED every day – whether it was 22 km or 12 km of walking behind us.  It did not matter how long we hiked, the almost but not quite of the end of the walking day was trying on patience and endurance.  Generally, 2 km meant we had about an hour to go (based on our pace by that time of the day).  I think we managed to average a respectable 2 miles/hour pace.  Yes, the average is 3 miles an hour, and as we progressed, we hit that most mornings.  However, as the day dragged on and we stopped for rain/hail, bocadillos/cervases, fechas (stamps), playgrounds, pictures, exhaustion, we slowed to average about 2 miles/hour.  So, those last 2 km hit at time of day it was easiest to want to quit, to sit down, and to call a cab – even if we were earlier in arriving than previous days.  I spent a lot of time doing the mental math on the km to miles.  It is about .62 miles per km.  So that’s about 60% of a mile, so that means 2 kms was about 1.2 – 1.5 miles left.
